Vacancy Announcement - DIVE & WATERFRONT COORDINATOR
Duties:The Dive & Waterfront Coordinator will be responsible for maintenance and operation of a fully fitted dive center and fleet of boats. Primary duties include teaching PADI Open Water dive course to Island School (www.islandschool.org) and DCMS (www.dcmsbahamas.org) students, as well as courses for visiting groups, and servicing all dive gear and compressor. Furthermore, the Dive & Waterfront Coordinator will be responsible for the servicing and maintenance of a fleet of six vessels ranging from 14ft skiff to a 42ft research/dive vessel. Must be a self-motivator and enjoy working hands on to build up an operational dive center.
Qualifications: Seeking an individual with:
- PADI OWSI certification as a minimum
- Experience piloting boats up to 45’
- Experience maintaining a variety of marine engines including two and four stroke outboards, small diesel inboards and large commercial diesel inboards.
- Scuba gear maintenance skills, particularly Sherwood regulator rebuilding
- Compressor maintenance
- Tank visual inspection certification a plus
- Experience working with teenagers a plus

Vacancy Announcement - AQUACULTURE SYSTEMS INTERN
The Cape Eleuthera Institute is accepting applications for the aquaculture systems internship. This is an unpaid four month position, with dormitory-style accommodation and board provided.
Duties: The wet lab and aquaculture intern will gain a wealth of research and work experience, working under the aquaculture and wet lab manager to maintain cobia (Rachycentron canadum), bonefish (Albula spp.), and tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) stocks in our 1600m2 wet lab. Interns will be responsible for daily feeding, monitoring, and maintenance within the flow-through seawater system, and involved in setting up any new facilities. Interns will also assist in the field or lab on other research programs, such as flats ecology and shark research, which fall under the Cape Eleuthera Institute.
Qualifications: Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in an aquatic related field, and knowledge of aquaculture systems a bonus, and the ability to work independently. SCUBA experience will be necessary to help in the maintenance of the offshore aquaculture cage and fish stock. This position requires long hours of manual work in hot weather – applicants must be in strong physical condition.

Vacancy Announcement - AQUAPONICS INTERN
The Cape Eleuthera Institute is accepting applications from qualified individuals seeking work experience and hands-on training in aquaponics system design and operation.This is an unpaid five month position, with dormitory-style accommodation and board provided. For the right person, this internship could evolve into a full-time position with the Cape Eleuthera Institute.
Duties: This is a five-month commitment in which you can learn the intricacies of aquaponics systems and small business management, as well as refine your teaching skills. The aquaponics intern will work primarily in our wet lab and aquaponics shade house, and will be responsible for all daily aquaponics operations from feeding the fish to sowing and planting seeds to harvesting salad greens. This is a small-scale commercial operation, and the intern will be responsible for filling customer orders and marketing a superior product. The intern will also be working with high school students from The Island School, gathering data, recording results, and documenting methodologies.
Qualifications: Applicants must have completed course work or have acquired practical experience in horticulture, hydroponic growing or aquaculture and possess the ability to work independently. Demonstrated self-motivation, determination, enthusiasm, and desire to inspire others is a must. Experience working with high school students or as a teacher of other ages is a plus. This position requires long hours in the sun – applicants must be in strong physical condition.
